I wanted to find a practical course: Ubiqum’s Learning by Doing approach was the perfect choice.

Congratulations on your new job! Where are you going to work?

I’ll be working as a full stack developer at Napptilus, I’m really looking forward to start!

What were you doing before you signed up for our course?

Before signing up for the Java Web Developer course at Ubiqum I was working in customer service. I had been studying for years, I have two degrees and a master’s degree in Criminology and, even so, I was not doing anything related to what I had studied.

Why did you feel it was the right time in your life to sign up for the course?

I wanted to make a change because I wasn’t really working on anything I wanted to do; I was tired of my situation and needed to reorganize my life. I had heard about the concept of intensive programs and Ubiqum seemed like the best option.

What was your main concern before you started?

I was very sure about starting the course, but I was a bit scared because it meant a very serious involvement and a big financial investment. However, after working intensively for a week at Ubiqum, which is like being in another world, I quickly realized that it was all worth it. You learn so much in such a short period of time.

Why did you feel Ubiqum was the best choice?

I wanted to find a course that was intensive, but not too intensive. As a beginner, I didn’t want to do a short nine-week course because, if I was sick for two days, I would miss a lot of work. Five months seemed like a good length of time as I would have time to process the material and really assimilate it before joining this new industry.
I also wanted to find a course that focused on the practical side rather than being theory-based and Ubiqum’s “Learn by Doing” methodology seemed like the best option. Fortunately, Ubiqum did not have an impossible selection process like other intensive programs. At Ubiqum they know how to work with beginners and only ask for motivation and commitment and no prior knowledge.

Do you consider that our “Learning by doing” methodology has been effective?

It took me a while to adapt to the “Learning by Doing” methodology – actually, I had spent my whole life learning with the traditional educational model – but once I got used to it, I found it very effective. I think it’s definitely a better way to learn; it’s more efficient because, instead of spending hours on theory, you get right into the practical tasks and you contain your own theory afterwards.

How would you say the Job Placement service helped you?

I found it very useful. In less than a month, I had 10 or 12 interviews planned, more than I had ever had in my entire life! In my case, they helped me make a LinkedIn profile (which I never had) and it ended up being very beneficial.

Why would you recommend Ubiqum?

I would recommend Ubiqum 100%, especially the front-end and development parts of the course. The best thing about learning with the Ubiqum methodology is that you change the way you approach a problem or approach learning a new subject, skill or programming language. Mental models are universal and extremely useful for problem solving.
