What were you doing before you signed up for our course?
I was an English teacher in Russia, but I found it repetitive and did not get the sense of satisfaction I was looking for.
Why did Ubiqum stand out as the best option when choosing an intensive web and mobile development program?
I took a look at several intensive programs and chose Ubiqum because here you learn Java, the most popular programming language. Also, the course is much longer than the others, which makes it more robust and comprehensive. Even though the price was higher than some of the others, for me it made it more reliable. The duration also appealed to me, because if it was shorter than 5 months, I would not have been satisfied.
Do you think our “Learning by Doing” methodology has been effective?
The best part is that Ubiqum felt like a job to me; they give you tasks and deadlines and you have to work in a fairly autonomous way, just like I do now in my job. When I started the new job, I wasn’t surprised or overwhelmed and I think my colleagues noticed. The transfer of what I learned at Ubiqum to the workplace is immediate.
What would you say to a total beginner? Or to someone who is contemplating a career change?
Start practicing. It is important to realize from the beginning if you really like programming or not, so I recommend trying as much as you can before signing up for a course.
How do you rate the process of finding a job?
It took me a little longer to find a job and I don’t think it helped that I didn’t speak a word of Spanish. Then I started actively looking for tech companies in Barcelona and the response rate was very high. I have been working at a company called Blackbird since November 2017 and I really like it. We use a completely different programming language but it was not a problem since in Ubiqum you learn everything from scratch and in a very practical way, then you are already very used to keep learning this way.
Why would you recommend Ubiqum?
I really like the atmosphere, but the main reason I would recommend it is that it feels like you are in a real development center.
