What were you doing before signing up for this course?
I studied business administration and hospitality and was working in events when I decided I wanted to go into programming. If you work in hospitality, you have to work in hotels and there are not too many opportunities for professional development. In web development, you have hundreds of doors that open for you; you can work as a freelancer, for a consultancy or you can even develop your own startup. The number of possibilities is endless and extremely diverse, you can never get bored being a programmer. Even before I finished the course, there were companies already calling me to offer me a job.
What was your main concern before you started?
There’s always the risk that you won’t be good enough, but I firmly decided that this was what I wanted to do. I even thought, if it’s not for me, this kind of technical knowledge can always be applied to other areas. but in the end it all worked out perfectly well.
Why did you feel Ubiqum was the best choice?
In other intensive programs I looked at, they asked for a certain level of experience and you had to take entrance exams, so in my case, these were not an option because my experience was limited.
Ubiqum is committed to you from day one to help you find a job and that means a lot; not only does it show that they believe in you and your skills, but they also believe in the quality of their courses – which is very impactful.
Do you consider that our “Learning by doing” methodology has been effective?
At first, I loved it and learning this way seemed very easy. However, when we moved on to studying JavaScript, I realized that I didn’t naturally have this kind of logical mental model and I had to practice a lot. It was a challenge, but if we didn’t challenge ourselves, life would be very boring. In college, I did a bit of HTML. However, at Ubiqum, with such breakneck speed, everything I had to learn (and more) was covered on the first day! Luckily, because the course is so hands-on, it’s easy to absorb it all.
Why would you recommend Ubiqum?
For everything. The atmosphere created at Ubiqum is like being part of a family. The tutors really give of themselves and, in the end, you see them as your friends. It’s a place you really want to go to every day. Learning to program and becoming a Developer may seem like an impossible task, but look, I just did it, just like the rest of my classmates in the course! At Ubiqum, they truly trust you and that is very motivating.
