10 advantages of being an application developer

You know you want to work in the exciting world of technology but you haven’t quite decided in which area and doing exactly what. There are many options: you can go into software development, become a web designer or work with machine learning algorithms as a data analyst. But there is one area that, with motivation and effort, is within everyone’s reach: web and mobile development.

This diverse area is full of opportunities, ranging from working as a front-end developer or developing online video games, to working as a Java developer and mastering the back-end. In addition, developers are in high demand!

1.- Developers are artists

Developers are able to create something tangible from an abstract idea. They are like a combination of painters, musicians and cinematographers with spectacular technical skills that perplex those who don’t know how to program.

2.- Web developers know how to use Google

Google and Stack Overflow are like the Bible for developers, and come on if you know how to use it right! They’ve spent months learning how to program, getting frustrated, going back to Google, rewriting their code, testing it, seeing that something doesn’t work, going back to Google… The cycle goes on… Becoming, in the end, Google experts.

3.- Developers use alternative mental models.

Developers have a completely different mindset than those who do not program. Through the act of programming and using a completely different language, they have the ability to see the world from a very different perspective, which helps them solve seemingly complex problems in any area of life.

After completing the Java course with Ubiqum, not only have my programming skills increased, it has also changed the way I think and solve everyday problems.“-Mohammed Najjar

4.- Developers know the web pages

As people familiar with the front-end (the HTML and CSS on each browser page), developers know that each page is made up of a finite number of instructions to the browser that it knows how to read and modify. They also know a neat trick to see them in more depth: F12. Yes, they use the F12 tool window to inspect the web page and look at its source code and behavior. Cool, isn’t it?

5.- Developers catch the jokes and references in series and movies.

Has it ever happened to you that you’re watching a movie or series with a techie friend and you feel out of place because you don’t get the jokes? Not to developers. They catch all (or almost all) the references to computing and technology that appear in movies and series, and even have their own repertoire of jokes to pull out at any time (although they are aware that only their programmer friends will understand them).

6.- Developers solve problems

Clients have given them complex tasks and very specific instructions and they are left to “fend for themselves”. While this may seem like a nightmare to some, developers love challenges and relish the chance to expand their skills and knowledge while delivering an impressive project. The “problems” are not considered problems, but challenges to be accepted and overcome.

7.- Web developers are digital nomads

Since all a developer really needs is a laptop, these professionals have the freedom to work from anywhere in the world. Not only can they work from home, from a coffee shop, a coworking space or even while traveling, but they don’t even have to be near their client or the rest of their team. As long as they have a good internet connection on their computer, they can go wherever they want.

8.- Developers have a great capacity for learning

Thanks to the developer mentality and their close relationship with autonomous learning, they can easily learn other programming languages and structures, as well as other languages, artistic techniques and develop knowledge in any area in a self-taught way.

And most importantly…

9.- Web developers are passionate about what they do!

Most developers are very happy because they love their work. They do something they love and by the nature of their profession they know how to manage feelings of frustration. In fact, frustration is something that guides their work and the satisfaction that motivates them to keep going is getting to solve a problem. It’s addictive, you’ll see.

In addition…

10.- Developers always have work to do

So developers not only love what they do, they are so sought after that they always have jobs! At Ubiqum Code Academy we teach beginners to become developers in 3 to 5 months and we see 90% of the students get several job offers after finishing the course . We find it amazing!
